Is Black Box Websites For You?
Ask yourself this: what makes a better impression on would-be clients? An attractively designed, easy to navigate, information-at-your-fingertips website, or a flash-loaded, mystery-meat navigation, confusing jumble of graphical eye candy that was obviously created on a do-it-yourself, free-website-in-ten-minutes webfactory?
Truth is, as a Crossfit affiliate, you’re providing a premium service. You’re not running a $25/month Globogym. So what kind of message does it send when your website looks like crap?
I’m not trying to be rude — I’m being honest. You’d expect the same from your coach, right? So here’s the honest truth: If your website looks like a 7th grader put it together, you aren’t sending the right message to your prospective clients.
And it’s not just prospects you’ve got a website for, either; it’s your members. Your patrons. The people without whom you wouldn’t have a business to have a website for. Is your current website meeting their needs? Is it a place they want to return to often? To share their stories, see photos and videos, or even record their daily performance? Is your site building community?
Unfortunately, many designers are more interested in building bloated sites (that they can charge an arm and a leg for) that look really nice (in their portfolio), but don’t take into account the needs and preferences of your patrons.
Of course, you’ve also seen too many of the do-it-yourself variety, too… uuuuugly. Not to mention, boring, run-of-the-mill, and completely uninteresting (which is not good if you’re trying to attract customers).
What Do You Need In A Website, Then?
- a way to present your gym’s information clearly and simply, so newcomers get what you’re about, and members can get what they need easily
- an attractive, aesthetically-pleasing, clean, simple, easy to navigate design that reflects well on the professionalism of your enterprise
- it’s got to be easily updatable, easy to change, and has room to grow as your affiliate does, so you aren’t tied to a designer for every little update (which, believe me, can add up fast)…
This is where I come in.
As a web designer, I’m tired of seeing hideously offensive CrossFit sites that are a half-step above MySpace pages. And as a CrossFitter, I know the language you speak, and what your goals are for your affiliate.
My design philosophy is all about creating useful, attractive sites that reflects your box’s personality and speaks to the needs of your patrons. No bloat, no useless functionality, and no cut-corners.
And, I’ll not only build your site, I’ll also teach you how to use it. I’ll walk you through the process of creating new posts, uploading photos, videos, or whatever you want to have on your site, and show you how easy it is to change things around. I want to make you stronger, more capable, and in control of your website.
If you’re in the market for a website for your affiliate, we should talk. Even if you choose not to hire me, I’m happy to help you get clear on what you do need, so you can find someone who can give it to you. And if that does end up being me, that’s awesome.
Where do I start?
If you haven’t read through the main page of this site, you should; it’ll give you all the info you need, and how to contact me with the form at the bottom.
If you have read through the main page, then ask me any question you want using the form in the sidebar. Yep, it’s that easy.
About Adam Kayce

I’m a full-time web designer and developer, specializing in WordPress, and I’ve been an entrepreneur for over ten years (there’s a whole bunch more to my personal history, but I wouldn’t want to bore you). I was a collegiate athlete (water polo and rowing), I’ve worked as a trainer in a Globogym, studied martial arts, and I’m a Level One certified CrossFit trainer.
When not in front of my computer, you can find me cooking something with coconut in it, playing with my kids, watching kung fu movies and UFC bouts, playing around with my Facebook profile, or lying on my back next to the squat rack at the gym making sweat angels.
